Course Description

These popular and well-attended courses continue to be a hit year after year! The Intermediate session will concentrate on individual and tax compliance issues and will be helpful if you have been a practitioner for as little as two years or for more. The Advanced section will emphasize business taxation. In both sessions, you will benefit from an effective combination of lecture, example problems, discussion, and questions. The two-day format of these courses will give you ample opportunity to explore topics.

Why You Should Attend

The NC State University Office of Professional Development is registered with the North Carolina State Board of CPA Examiners as a sponsor of continuing professional education. The Intermediate and Advanced Income Tax Schools have been accepted by the CFP Board for continuing education credit. The two hours of ethics offered in the Intermediate and Advanced Income Tax Schools qualify for the annual two-hour CPE ethics requirement of the NC State Board of CPA Examiners. The NC State University Office of Professional Development is registered as a National CPE Sponsor (Registry ID Number 129372) for the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA).

Expected Outcomes

After completing these courses, you will be able to:

Notes / Additional Information

Hours reported to the IRS by PTIN: 2 hours of Ethics, 3 hours of New Tax Law, and 10 hours of Tax Law Education for a total of 15 hours.

CPAs and CFPs can report an additional hour of tax education for NC tax changes for a total of 16 hours.

Accountant in Raleigh, NC with over 30 years of experience, specializing in small businesses and individuals. He is accredited by the Accreditation Council
for Accountancy and Taxation, and is a member of both the NC Society of Accountants and the National Society of Accountants.

Michelle Sosnowski, CPA

Accountant with over 25 years of experience in both national and local CPA firms located in Michigan, Texas, Ohio and North Carolina. She specializes in small business accounting and tax as well as individual income tax preparation and planning. Michelle is also a Certified QuickBooks Pro Advisor. She is certified by the North Carolina State Board of CPA Examiners.


Lillian Glover Young, CPA

Accountant with over 30 years of experience with the NC State Income Tax Schools. She has her own tax practice in Charlotte, NC.

Jim Holmes

Accountant with over 45 years in the public practice of accounting in Burlington, NC. He is enrolled to practice before the Internal Revenue Service. He is an Accredited Business Accountant and an Accredited Tax Accountant. Jim has over 20 years of experience with the NC State Income Tax Schools.


Due to overwhelming demand in some locations, you are strongly encouraged to register in advance. Because of space limitations, walk-ins cannot be accepted if the location is sold out in advance. Please call 919.515.2261 to inquire about space availability if you have not pre-registered.

Per IRS requirements, the registrant must remain in the class they selected for the duration of the program. Attending one day in one location and the second day in another location will be unacceptable.
